Introduce language points.(1) This is my report on transportation. 这是我关于交通工具的报告。辨析：on与abouton与about作介词时，都意为“关于”，但用法不同，具体见下表。on用于严肃的或学术性的内容，较为正式This book is on science.这本书是关于科学方面的。about表示内容较普通，不太正式Its a story about Lei Feng.那是一个关于雷锋的故事。(2) This world is always moving.这个世界总是运动的。be always doing sth.意为“总是或一直做某事”，现在进行时态与always连用，表示一个经常重复的动作或状态，常用来表达说话人的某种感情，如：赞叹、埋怨、厌烦等。例：He is always talking.他老是讲话。My mother is always saying Im lazy. 我妈妈总是说我懒。(3) Everything seems to have wheels, engines or wings.所有 的东西似乎都有轮子、发动机或者翅膀。wing可数名词，意为“翅膀”。The bird has large wings. 这只鸟有很大的翅膀。Its wings are beautiful. 它的翅膀很漂亮。【拓展】与wing相关的短语：be on the wing意为“在飞翔中；在飞行中”wait in the wings意为“等待时机”练一练：鸟儿在飞翔。The bird is on the wing.他在等待时机。He is waiting in the wings.(4)Long ago, horses pulled carts. .很久以前，马拉着手推车pull及物动词，意为“拉；拖”其反义词为push.例：He pulled the door open.他拉开了门。【拓展】：与pull相关的短语：pull down“推翻；摧毁”pull out (of)“拨掉；抽出”练一练：去年他们拆了许多旧房子。They pulled down many old houses last year.昨天医生拨掉了我的一颗坏牙。The doctor pulled out my bad tooth yesterday.(5)Then steam was able to power boats and cars.那时蒸汽能给船舶和小汽车提供动力。a). be able to意为“能；会；能够”，后接动词原形。Betty is able to sing. 贝蒂会唱歌。【拓展】 be able to 与can辨析：be able to 与can两者都可以来表示能力，有时可换用，但用法有差别，具体如下表：be able to强调具体事件中有能力，指“经过努力而成功地做某事”。可用于各种时态，不与can连用。can只是一般性的能力，指“有能力做某事”只有现在式和过去式两种形式。例：He will be able to drive next year.明年他就能开车了。I can swim. = I am able to swim.我会游泳。b). power （n.）能力；力量out of ones power 能力所不及Knowledge is power. 知识就是力量。（n.）权力in power 当权（n.）大国，强国the Great Powers 各大国（v.）驱动；推动；赋予动力power boats and cars（6）All of these cars make the U.S. a nation on wheels.所有的这些汽车使美国成为一个轮子上的国家。make sb./sth. +n. 使成为， 在本句中，on wheels是后置定语，修饰a nation。We make Bob our monitor. 我们推选鲍勃当班长。【拓展】make +n.+adj. “使处于某种状态”Dont make our classroom dirty.不要把我们的教室弄脏。（7）Now people can even travel to space in spaceships.现在人们甚至能乘宇宙飞船去太空旅行。space此处为不可数名词，意为“太空”。表此意时（外太空也归此类outer space）一般不用冠词，但被其他形容词修饰时可用the, 如：in the dark space在黑暗的太空里。He was the first man to walk in outer space.他是在外太空漫步的第一个人。(8) Can you imagine future transportation?你能想象未来的交通工具吗？imagine及物动词，意为“想象；想到”，其用法如下： imagine后接名词或代词作宾语。Can you imagine life without water? 你能想象没有水的生活吗？ imagine 后接动名词或动名词复合结构作宾语。I cant imagine meeting you here. 我没想到在这儿遇到你。imagine一般不可接不定式作宾语，但可以接“人称代语+不定式（to be）或形容词”构成的复合结构。Just imagine yourself (to be ) alone on the island.imagine后接疑问词引导的宾语从句或“疑问词+动词不定式”结构。We cant imagine how to use “the flying donuts”. 我们想象不出怎么使用“飞行面包圈”。Step Practice1.
