5、k,Tokopedia and Bukalapak,as well as the government encouraging foreign investment.However a slowdown began in 20195 though this downward trend was expected to continue into 2020,the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in the first quarter of 20206 brought the Indonesian economy to a crawl.The Interna
6、tional Monetary Fund revised its forecast of just over 5%GDP growth for 2020 to 0.5%7 as of April 2020.Because of this economic downturn,jobs will be affected the IMF projected in April 2020 that Indonesias unemployment rate will increase over two percentage points this year,from 5.3%in 2019 to 7.5%
7、in 2020,largely due to pandemic-related layoffs caused by supply chain disruptions and decreased consumer demand as people remain at home8.In an effort to assist its citizens and economy,the Indonesian government has issued several stimulus packages,cut corporate tax rates,temporarily removed a budg
8、et-deficit cap,and made sovereign bonds from the central bank available for auction9.Despite the setback from the pandemic,the IMFs April projection showed the Indonesian economy remaining positive throughout 2020 and then growing by 8.2%in 202110.As the global economy recovers and manufacturing and

10、nesiaWhen compared to neighboring countries,Indonesia felt the impact of COVID-19 relatively late and the response ramped up in April.With this came major disruptions to a variety of sectors across the archipelago,especially travel,hospitality,retail and other consumer-facing industry segments.Becau
11、se of this and the economic uncertainty of the near-future,the majority of firms operating here are undertaking the same wait-and-see approach as their peers across the region by slowing down existing hiring activities or postponing or cancelling hiring for new roles.Indeed,there have also been layo
12、ffs,furloughs and staff reduction in the industry segments noted since many businesses closed temporarily and there was no need for staff.Approximately 50%of the all COVID-19 cases in Indonesia have surfaced across the Greater Jakarta region(Jabodetabek),which was closed off from the rest of the cou
13、ntry effective April 27 in order to flatten the curve and weaken the spread of the virus.Though a needed measure,it added to the uncertainty in the market.However,as of May,the overall perception of economic uncertainty in Indonesia has eased and a sense of getting back to business with the new norm
14、al of working from home has produced some increased hiring activities,especially in the tech sector for roles relating to programming,data science,and sales/marketing,in the healthcare sector,and in the e-learning industry segment.These industries have continued to grow and,in some cases,ramped up h
15、iring markedly since the onset of COVID-19.This is especially the case with e-learning since all schools and tutoring centers are closed.We see continued salary increases between 15%25%for people moving into job roles in the areas noted above.Even with the uncertainty surrounding what exactly the im
16、pact of the pandemic will ultimately be on the economy and job market,many organizations are using this as an opportunity to re-align and optimize their business and operations in order to become more efficient and to future-proof talent pipelines.Looking forward to when the economy and country reco
