1、摘 要20世纪80年代,随着女权主义运动的发展愈演愈烈,女性译者开始将目光转向翻译领域。“文化转向”使人们愈发认识到文化与翻译之间的关系。在各种因素的作用下,女性主义翻译观随之产生。在路易斯冯弗洛图,谢莉西蒙等加拿大女性翻译家对此理论的补充与完善后,女性主义翻译观形成了完备的体系,得到了广泛应用,受到了越来越多的关注。弗吉尼亚伍尔夫是20世纪影响深远的一位女性作家,是意识流小说流派发展史中举足轻重的小说家。到灯塔去作为其代表作,讲述了拉姆齐一家与其好友在海边小岛度假的生活。本文通过分析瞿世镜和王家湘的两种译本,从女性主义翻译观的角度对比分析两位译者的译者主体性。通过翻译策略以及二者对原文的忠实
2、度的角度,作者发现王家湘的译本更多地还原了原作中的女性主义意识,对女性人物形象的塑造也更加正面。而瞿世镜则会不自觉地流露出男性主导文化下的男权意识。关键词:女性主义翻译;到灯塔去;译本对比AbstractSince 1890s, with the development of feminist movement, female translators began to focus on translation. In the process of “cultural turn”, translators turned their attention to other field beyond
3、the text, such as culture, then feminist translation theory was launched. Sherry Simon, Luise Von Flotow, Barbara Godard and other Canadian theorists enriched and completed the system by proposing their own theories. With more female translators regarding it as a way to express their political appea
4、ls, the theory has been increasingly used in translation practice.Virginia Woolf is a 20-century writer with profound influence on modernist literature. To The Lighthouse tells a story that The Ramseys spent a holiday in an island with some friends. Jamess aspiration for the visit to the lighthouse
5、failed. After the First World War, James finally reached the lighthouse but Mrs Ramsey passed away at that time.The thesis analyzes the subjectivity of the translators by making a comparison of two Chinese versions of To The Lighthouse translated by Qu Shijing and Wang Jiaxiang respectively from the
6、 perspective of feminist translation theory. From analyzing whether they use feminist translation strategies and their fidelity to the original text the author finds that female translator Wang Jiaxiang shows stronger feminist consciousness and can translate the feminist thoughts appearing in the or
7、iginal text in a more active way in her translated text. IntroductionA.Research BackgroundSince the late 1960s, translation research has extended to its scope into the
14、discourse dimension from linguistic unit. With the proposition of the polysystem theory and the translation norms in the 1980s, the translation research in western countries converted to the related researches beyond text such as culture, society history and politics. In 1900, Translation, History a
15、nd Culture that underlined the importance of the relationship between the translation and ideology, co-edited by Bassnett Susan and Lefever, marked the beginning of “cultural turn”. Feminist translation theory that was proposed in the process of the “cultural turn” approached translation from the pe
16、rspective of feminism which provided a new perspective for translation practice. In the long history, translators were invisible and translation was traditionally considered to be derivative and inferior to original text while women were always at a secondary position in a male-dominated society. Tr
17、anslators were deprived of the right of explanation in translation for the signs of betrayal of the source text were not allowed in the traditional translation perspectives. Feminist translation theory served as the bridge to connect the marginalized women and the marginalized translation. Just as w
18、omen launching feminist movement aimed at overthrowing the the submission of women to men, feminist translation theorists reconsidered the function and the value of translation. In this process, translators might adopt certain strategies to achieve their goal such as deleting some rude words to wome
19、n or beautifying the female images. Different translators would use their own methods to handle with the translation, so the sense of feminism appeared in different translations are worth researching.B. Research Objectives and significanceTo The Lighthouse is a powerful feminist novel written by Vir
20、ginia Woolf, who is considered as one of the most important modernist 20th-century authors and also a pioneer in the use of stream of consciousness as a narrative device. This thesis will make a detailed comparison between the two Chinese versions of To The Lighthouse translated by Qu Shijing and Wa
21、ng Jiaxiang to analyze the differences of the two translations. In this paper, the author explores how they differ in selecting words and styles to depict womens appearance, mental activities and studies the translators subjectivity under the framework of feminist translation theory. The thesis does
22、 not assume that some gender will reflect particular feminism tendency but hope to research whether the two translators will represent feminism in the process of translating the certain text To The Lighthouse, and whether they will avoid the feminist contents in translation. 23、Previous Studies of Feminist Translation TheoryFeminist translation theory with strong feminist consciousness, poitical awareness and cultural awareness firstly appeared in the “cultural turn” and became prevalent with the the big waves of the feminist movement.
